The events of the last 2 years have highlighted the need for virtual campus tours. Covid restrictions made it so more prospective students and their parents turned to online tours to explore different colleges and universities.  They are a great opportunity to connect with these prospective students and engage with them.

Virtual tours allow future students to get a sense of the campus and the facilities. However, current tours are ultimately rather stale and ‘flat’. This stale content leads to less interaction and engagement. Most ‘virtual’ tours are virtual by the fact they are online. They are flat, and often times, static projection of school images. Pecking and clicking around to find facilities and buildings leads to less engagements and user drop-off.

There is a new generation of  “True Virtual Reality” campus tours enhancing the viewer experience beyond the 2D world. VR devices allow users to immerse themselves in the 3D world of the campus. The tour is currently designed as a journey through the campus. It is descriptive and the visitor is taken dynamically through the true virtual world of the school. Prospective students can easily look around, up and down as they are discovering the campus.

Longer and sustained engagement are a great opportunity for schools to connect with the students. CampusVR’s goal is to continue to enhance its VR productions to turn this engagement into enrollment opportunities for colleges.
